Bangkok is definitely not lacking independent cafes and the competition for visual design is as strong as the quality of the coffee served. We looked out for quiet cafes that are perfect to sip your coffee without a group of influencers overdoing their shoots in a tiny space and most of these cafes are also conducive working environment with Wifi and plugs available for use.

We sieve through the list but the term ‘pretty’ could be subjective but here are 10 cafes for you to judge for yourself:

(I usually drink Iced latte so it will be used for any price comparison below)

1. Kaffe50

Kaffe50 is our all-time favourite cafe whose main business is selling used furniture but also operates a cafe inside the shop. With that in mind, the cafe decorations and dining setting change very frequently. You will always walk into a familiar yet different vibe in Kaffe50.

Drinks and cakes are both good and reasonably priced so there’s really nothing I am not satisfied with.

Located right beside Kaffe50, is the famous Nong Rim Klong who is famous for serving up chunky crab meat.

2. BOYY & SON CAFé

The aesthetic cafe has outshined its main business as a boutique for luxury designer bags. Perhaps with a designer background, the cafe interior is a notch above the rest that at the same time complements its main boutique layout.

Boyy & Son is also conveniently located in Gaysorn Village with close proximity to the popular Erawan Shrine, Pratunam Market and Platinum Mall – perfect to sip a cup of coffee and a croissant after you have done your shopping.

3. Walden Home Cafe

Walden, one of our favourite cafes in Bangkok. The small shophouse cafe is meticulously decorated with beautiful shades of olive green and wood. Despite its size, it has aced everything a cafe needs! Cosy ambience, friendly staff, great coffee and a great working environment. It is still a hidden gem for now, just a short walk from ICONSIAM mall.

Bonus, they use nice hand washes that are also for sale. I particularly love their choco mint scent!

4. Akirart Cafe Studio

This is an amazing adaptation of its original layout. Located in a quiet business district, it is surrounded by small local offices like its kind. Except that Akirart is now revamped into a cafe, keeping all its original furniture. Think of it this way, a co-working space during the 90s. The thick desktop and mechanical keyboard are used as decorations.

I find it such a pity that cameras are not allowed, but taking photos with a smartphone is fine here. Drinks are also decent here.

5. WWA Chooseless cafe

Regardless of the food prices here, Chooseless cafe is undoubtedly an Instagram worthy place and also a great place to browse its exquisitely selected vintage pieces although they also come at a hefty price tag. Iced latte uses thick milk but comes in a small potion and priced at 132 baht, way higher than other cafes in the neighbourhood. The only good thing is the visuals in the cafe is very satisfying.

6. Ha Tien Cafe

Ha Tien is also priced at the higher end for cafes but the taste and quality of the cakes make it worth every cent. The spacious 3-storey high cafe is decorated with rustic and vintage furniture throughout and even the music is specifically selected to give off that 70s vibes.

You can drop by this cafe after visiting Wat Pho just a stone throw away.

7. Piccolo Cafe

A little out of the way, but Piccolo cafe is a great escape from the bustling Bangkok downtown. With a minimalist decoration, many claimed that this little cafe serves one of the best coffee in town. Even better? An iced latte only cost 70 baht here.

Thanks to the location, it is work-friendly since it is also good for an extended stay.

8. Tai Guan Cafe

Tai Guan has everything but your usual cup of coffee. The Chinese-style cafe crafted an unusual menu that includes drinks like Plum Expresso, Herbal Tea, Lemon Plum Soda and many more. Others recommended items are Red Pork Waffles, Tofu Sherbet and Goji Chrysanthemum Jelly.

9. My Grandparent’s House

In a heritage Thai house run by a Chinese family who is still living at this place. this cafe is the most authentic local vibes you can get from a cafe. Sitting on the Chao Praya River, the view you get here is simply the best. Food is also fairly inexpensive, so what else to ask for?

10. Starbucks (Thonburi Bamrungmuang Hospital Outlet)

Yet another perfect example of localisation of an international brand. It can’t get better than drinking your familiar and comfort cup of coffee in a local setting, a two-storey Thai heritage building to be exact. This particular Starbucks outlet should be on your list to visit.
