I don’t know how frequent do you hear that Perth is boring but situated just five hours away from the country down under, we took the accessibility for granted.
Some say it’s purely a family destination because of how laid back the city looks.
We do like laidback cities but Perth is an all-rounder. You can get so much out of this city – you can have chill days doing the minimum but you could also make every day action-packed. It’s not JUST a family destination, here are 8 things to do in Perth that will remind you:

8 things to do in Perth
1. Grilled Cheese in a Laneway Cafe (Toastface Grillah)
A cheeky wordplay on the rapper turns out to be a hippy grilled cheese cafe tucked in the alleyway of Perth CBD. Definitely not just known for its branding and friendly staff, the sandwiches here are consistent and never lets anyone down. The perfect choice to start your first meal in Perth.
Price: A$5-A$9
Address:
Wellington St &, Barrack St, Perth WA 6000, Australia

2. Photo with Insta-famous Blue Boat House (Crawley Edge Boatshed)
It is an understatement to say this is the most instagrammable place in Perth. It literally drove up Perth’s tourism so much that the council decided to build a $400k toilet for the tourists visiting this place.
A mandatory tourist shot is needed for your Instagram and no other place is a more fitting backdrop than the Blue Boat House revived by influencers.
Price: Free
Address:
Mounts Bay Road, Crawley, Perth, Western Australia 6009, Australia

3. See a Humpback in the Indian Ocean
We purposely planned the trip in the peak season of the annual whale migration so that we could catch a glimpse of the majestic humpbacks. For sure, this one of the highlights of the trip.
The ferry ride alone in the ocean is already exciting enough with huge waves crashing on to the ferry. There is actually no still moment from the moment you board the ferry.
The staff on board are very professional in terms of spotting the whales and to provide us with the best experience. Although they also ensure if you don’t sight any whales during the tour, you can get on the next cruise FREE of charge.
Tip! The ferry is extremely rocky out in the ocean so be sure to pop your motion sickness pills half an hour before boarding to prevent nausea. You don’t want to ruin your rare opportunity of seeing the whales.
Price: Usually a 2-hour cruise at about A$60 including pick-up from designated stops. We chose Rottnest Fast Ferries and had an amazing experience throughout.
4. Observe Wildlife in its Natural Habitat (Yanchep National Park)
Nothing beats seeing animals roaming wild and free in their natural habitats. Skip the zoo and head over to Yanchep where you can find yourself surrounded by western grey kangaroos, stroll along the 240-metre koala boardwalk, birdwatching and visit the different caves within the park.
Tip! Kangaroos are only spotted in the early morning or before dusk. Other times, they seek shelter from the hot sun so if you’re there in the afternoon, take a drive towards the Golf Course and you are likely to spot a few.
Price: A$13 per vehicle
Address:
Yanchep Beach Rd &, Indian Ocean Dr, Yanchep WA 6035, Australia

5. Have a blast at Lancelin Sand Dunes
An hour drive up north of Yanchep National Park brings you to beautiful sand dunes where you can have fun sandboarding, getting on an ATV or just for great photos! It takes a little effort to get up to the highest point of the sand dunes but sliding down the dunes gives you the adrenaline you experienced as a child again.
Not to mention the good weather Perth is known for is a big plus for the Instagram shot on the top of the dunes.
Price: A$10 for board rental
Address:
Beacon Rd, Lancelin WA 6044, Australia

6. Stargazing at The Pinnacles Desert
The yellow landscape against the dark skies filled with splattered stars, the Pinnacles Desert is an iconic destination for stargazing. The drive-through is open at all times including after dark but drives with caution as there is wildlife along the way.
Bring a mat with you and lay down while you stargaze – unwind and appreciate how incredible and beautiful this sight is.
Price: A$13 per vehicle
Address:
Pinnacles Dr, Cervantes WA 6511, Australia

7. Prison Stay in Fremantle (Fremantle Prison YHA)
Staying in prison is not your everyday thing. The comfortable hostel caters to everyone of different ages, not just youth. Although it’s transformed into a hostel, rest assured that the spooky factor still remains.
The hostel also has spacious common areas to encourage interactions between ‘inmates’ including the huge kitchen, table tennis room, volleyball court and a yard with hammocks.
Price: A$22 onwards for a dorm bed, private rooms available.
Address:
6A The Terrace, Fremantle WA 6160, Australia

To further spice up your night at the prison, you can join the torchlight tour in the dark as the guide entertains with ghastly stories and history of the prison. Only available every Wednesday and Friday evening. Head over to the official website to find out more.
8. Get a #Quokkaselfie
Western Australia is the home to the adorable Quokkas. The happiest animal on Earth has taken over Instagram so don’t miss your chance of getting a selfie with the cute creatures who are friendly with humans!
Be gracious and respect the wildlife. Do not touch or pet the Quokkas roaming around (I know how hard that sounds but still don’t). Read more on the official website before you head over.
